A thug who headbutted a police officer at the Cycling World Championships avoided jail on Monday.
Kyle Thomson, 30, lashed out at constable Charles Ntoe at Glasgow city centre's George Square on August 6 2023.
Thousands from over the world had descended to watch the event which involved 8,000 participants.
Officers were made aware of Thomson who was at the event's security control point.
Former sales manager Thomson was noted to shout and swear towards the stewards.
He then approached the police and said: "F*** off you corrupt c***s.
"Get to f*** or I will kill you."
Thomson was then placed under arrest when he said: "Get your hands off me you c***s, I have done f*** all."
Thomson was restrained on the ground when he began to throw his head forward on multiple occasions.
Prosecutor Caitlin O'Hare told Glasgow Sheriff Court: "Thomson headbutted PC Ntoe as he was being taken to the ground."
Thomson was later taken to a police officer and charged when he stated: "I would like to speak to a sergeant and a lawyer."
Thomson pleaded guilty to assaulting the officer and behaving in a threatening or abusive manner.
Thomas Gallagher, defending, told the sentencing: "I am embarrassed on behalf of my client.
"His actions on that day were shocking.
"This was a serving police officer during an international event.
"He expresses his regret."
Sheriff Mark McGuire ordered Thomson to do 180 hours of unpaid work.
The dad-of-one was also put under supervision and alcohol counselling for 12 months.
The sheriff said: "This was an appalling piece of behaviour.
"Your conduct took place in the middle of a national and international event which could have sparked serious disorder.
"I take on board that I am sentencing you on what you have done.
"Don't engage in this type of conduct again - take it from me you will be going to prison."
