A development of 38 flats and terraced houses could be built in a village near Motherwell if a planning application is approved.
North Lanarkshire Council has received a planning application in principle for the homes on land located north of Church Street in Newarthill.
There are currently industrial buildings on the site which would be torn down to make way for the new development.
A previous bid to build housing at this location was rejected by the council in 2011 on the grounds that it was contrary to local planning policy. However the applicant has been advised that as the site is in a mainly residential area redevelopment for housing would enhance the amenity of the area while the loss of employment land would have little impact.
The development would include urban villa blocks, of a similar manner to those found at the Commonwealth Games Village in Sighthill and elsewhere around Scotland.
For further details or to comment on the application visit North Lanarkshire Council’s website and search for reference 23/01003/PPP.
