A baker says she is “overwhelmed” by the community’s response to her opening her own shop.
Sarah Nicholson officially launched Pretty Baked, a baked goods business, at the weekend
There was a queue of hungry customers waiting outside as she opened the doors of the unit which is located on Kelso Street in Yoker.
The 27-year-old, from Clydebank revealed that her first weekend in business was “a blur” but that it meant the world that so many people turned out to support her.
Sarah said: “My friends were all there and they told me that there was a queue down the street but the whole day was a blur for me.
“I don’t even think I saw it. On Sunday I opened at half 12 and there was a queue outside again. It was really busy and I sold out both days.
“On Sunday everything was gone by half two/three. On Friday night I was in until midnight baking and then back in at six in the morning.
“It was the same again Saturday into Sunday. I think I had ten to 12 hours of sleep over the whole weekend.
“People were commenting on my posts on Facebook and posting their pictures of what they got. I had a lot of support from everyone in my life and it was just so nice to see everybody.
“It’s been really overwhelming actually.”
Sarah began baking around two years ago to help cope with the sudden loss of her beloved dad David who passed away in April 2022 from Sepsis.
She started with just cupcakes and progressed to making themed birthday cakes for her friends’ little ones which she said she was inspired to do after watching videos on Tik Tok.
The front counter at Pretty Baked offers a variety of tray bakes, cookies, cupcakes, and its best-seller strawberry tarts daily.
Ahead of opening on Saturday Sarah explained that it had been a nerve-wracking journey to open her own business but after receiving so much support she is looking forward to the future.
She added: “I’m still trying to find my feet. I’m, going in today [Tuesday] to change the kitchen about slightly because there was some stuff that I realised wasn’t working out where it was.
“I’ve tried to make the menu as nice but as simple as possible so I can get as much as I can get done.
“I have three ovens and that’s it. The strawberry tarts were one of my best sellers I made 40 of them on Sunday and every one of them sold.
“It means the absolute world to me that people support me and it’s so overwhelming. I can’t thank everybody enough.
“I’m not joking my followers nearly doubled on Facebook and Instagram. People came in and told me that ‘this is what we need around here’ and it was nice to hear.
“I’m just so happy that everybody loves it as much as me and I can’t wait to hopefully get bigger and better and see where it goes.”
