A bus firm is launching a brand-new direct service between Glasgow and a popular beach town.

Scottish Citylink announced this week it will now operate a direct service between Glasgow and Troon.

Operating seven days a week with four services in each direction each day, the services will also link in with ferries between Troon and Brodick (Arran).

The first coach leaves Glasgow at 7.15am on weekdays and will arrive in Troon in time for the first ferry of the day, while the last service leaves Troon Harbour at 4.50pm after the last ferry arrives from Arran.

On weekends, the first service leaves Glasgow at 7.35am and will leave Troon Harbour at 8pm.

The new service will also see the introduction of the first electric vehicle on the Citylink network - a 47-seat Yutong TCE12 vehicle which has a range of 200 miles.

Scottish Citylink's managing director Simone Walsh said: “This new service will allow people a hassle-free way to travel between Glasgow and Troon, to connect with the ferry services to Arran, and is another example of ways that we work hard to join up journeys for our customers.

“We’re also delighted to be introducing the first electric vehicle on to our network - it’s a great opportunity for us to make this an even greener route - and we hope our customers enjoy travelling on this state-of-the-art coach.”

Fares on the route start from £10 return and tickets can be booked at citylink.co.uk.
