A busy road was 'closed off' by emergency services after an incident.
999 crews swarmed Station Road in Blantyre on Saturday night.
Reports on social media claimed a large part of the road was closed off after someone was 'attacked' near the train station.
One local said: "It's getting worse and worse."
Cops confirmed that they were sent to the scene following an assault.
The victim, a 43-year-old man, was rushed to hospital where he is battling serious injuries.
An investigation has now been launched into the shocking ordeal.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 9pm on Saturday, March 30 we were called to a report of an assault in the Station Road area of Blantyre.
“A 43-year-old man was treated in hospital for serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
“Enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances.”
