Almost 20 new homes delivered to tenants in Coatbridge

North Lanarkshire Council has announced its latest council house project at Berwick Street is now complete.

The local authority has said the new development has provided "high-standard, modern and affordable" homes to its tenants.

The new homes come as part of the council's ambitious new supply programme which aims to deliver 5000 new houses by 2035.

In total, 19 new properties are now home to tenants in the area.

The contract for the homes - which is being delivered by Cruden - is valued at £4.1 million and is being supported by £1.64m of Scottish Government grant funding.

Tenant Amanda O'Neil is "delighted" with her new home.

She said: “My son uses a wheelchair and this new house has really improved his overall quality of life.

"Having an adapted wet room for showering, level access throughout the home and a flat garden that he can access makes such a difference."

North Lanarkshire Council's housing convener Michael McPake said: “I’m delighted to see another successful housing development complete.

"Our housing investment is transforming communities and town centres, providing jobs and boosting the local economy.

"We’ve delivered 1351 new homes for tenants and construction is underway on nine sites across the North Lanarkshire area.

“To hear first-hand from our tenants about the benefits our housing is delivering to their everyday lives is really pleasing.

"From helping to tackle fuel poverty with our energy efficiency measures to making our homes more accessible and able to adapt to suit tenants and their families, we are building homes for the future.

"We are committed to rolling out our ambitious housing plans to benefit more people across the area and to make North Lanarkshire the place to live.”

Attending the completion event was councillor McPake alongside councillors Tracy Carragher and Geraldine Woods.

Meanwhile, representatives from North Lanarkshire Council and Cruden were also in attendance.
