A Rangers fan who punched and broke a fellow supporter's nose at a match walked free from court today.

George Lochrane, 52, pounced on Chris Kelly at Ibrox Stadium on August 16, 2022.

The Gers hosted Dutch outfit PSV in the first leg of their Champions League qualifying campaign.

The incident took place amid claims a child in Lochrane's care splashed Mr Kelly with a drink.

Court papers state Lochrane, of Coatbridge, North Lanarkshire, punched Mr Kelly in the face to his severe injury.

Mr Kelly suffered a dislocated nose which has affected his breathing.

Lochrane was found guilty of the assault at Glasgow Sheriff Court and was sentenced today.

Jamie Toner, defending, stated at the sentencing that his client has followed the club for 40 years.

The lawyer said: "He asks not to impose a football banning order.

"The incident wasn't directly related to the football but it did happen at Ibrox Stadium.

"He looks to continue to follow the football team.

"He accepts full responsibility for the offence - he was going through a difficult period."

Sheriff Bernard Ablett tagged Lochrane for five months keeping him indoors between 7pm and 7am.

He also banned Lochrane from all UK football matches for a period of 18 months.

The sheriff said: "This was a very serious matter and you have crossed the custodial threshold.

"I am not going to impose imprisonment and as an alternative, I will impose a restriction of liberty order.

"You should be in prison if you breach the order."
