Part of Glasgow train line to remain closed due to sinkhole

ScotRail has said due to a sinkhole between Caldercruix & Drumgelloch, Network Rail has confirmed that the line between Airdrie and Bathgate is expected to be shut all day today (Monday, April 22).

It comes after we first reported about the issue yesterday (Sunday, April 21).

Due to the sinkhole, services passing through the area have been alternated.

The travel company has said services between Airdrie and Balloch will run as normal, however, services from Helensburgh to Edinburgh - which pass through Glasgow Queen Street - will terminate at Airdrie - these services will run half-hourly during peak times and hourly between peaks.

Meanwhile, services from Edinburgh to Helensburgh will terminate at Bathgate - again, these will run half-hourly during peak time and hourly between peaks.

On top of that, direct services between Milngavie and Edinburgh have also had to be cancelled due to the issue, but trains are still running between Milngavie and Glasgow.

Limited bus replacement services will also run between Airdrie and Bathgate.

A spokesperson for ScotRail said: "Due to the sinkhole between Caldercruix & Drumgelloch, Network Rail has confirmed that the line between Airdrie and Bathgate is expected to be closed all day - April 22.

"We're working hard to add carriages to services where possible, but trains are expected to be busier than usual.

"Please check the app for the latest service information."
