More than 50 homes with "low car ownership" could be built on a vacant green area in Glasgow.

A planning application was submitted for a housing development off Southloch Street in Springburn.

The 55 units are proposed next to the Petershill football pitches.

Currently, the area is described as "unkept rough grassland, with sporadic vegetation across most of the site, thickening to the south towards the tenement properties on Petershill Road".

Papers also state: "The site is currently not in use for any purpose and is therefore considered as ‘vacant disused land’."

Applicants Ambassador Partnership Homes Ltd and AC Land Regeneration Ltd are planning to build two blocks of flats and four blocks of two-storey housing.

Other works are also included in the proposal, such as new car access, road networks, 39 parking spaces, a children's play area and a community garden.

The development would aim to avoid a "sea of car parking", due to the site's accessibility via public transport.

Documents reveal the homes would be "for social rent with low car ownership".

According to documents, the scheme would include one, two, and three-person flats and two, three and four-person houses.

Glasgow City Council's planning committee is considering the application and a decision is expected by Friday, August 16.
