Three people were hospitalised with serious injuries after "dozens of emergency services" were spotted on a road near Glasgow.

999 crews were called to Strathaven Road in East Kilbride around 8.20pm yesterday after a car and motorbike collided.

An eyewitness said there were "dozens of emergency crews" on the scene and the car was "wrecked and on its roof". The motorbike was also "damaged".

Police confirmed that the motorbike rider was hospitalised with serious injuries while the driver and passenger of the car were also assessed by medical staff in hospital.

The road was shut for hours and was reopened just after 3.30am this morning.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 8.20pm on Thursday, May 9, 2024, police were called to the A726 Strathaven Road in East Kilbride, following a road crash involving a car and a motorbike.

“The male driver of the motorbike was conveyed to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital with serious injuries. The driver and passenger of the car were taken to University Hospital Wishaw for assessment.

“Emergency services left the scene around 3.35am and enquiries remain ongoing.”

Sergeant John Houston, from the Motherwell Road Policing unit, said: “We are appealing to anyone who was in the area and either witnessed the crash or has any potential dashcam footage from around the time, to please come forward.

“If you believe you can assist our enquiries, please call police on 101, quoting incident 3669 of May 9, 2024.”
