A man was brutally attacked in the middle of a busy town centre.
The 55-year-old victim was walking on Causeyside Street near Forbes Place in Paisley at around 5.10pm on Saturday.
Two men began shouting in his direction before following him onto Marshalls Lane and assaulting him.
He was rushed to hospital where he remains in a serious condition.
Officers are urging anyone who may have seen what happened to get in touch, as they believe the area would have been busy at the time.
Detective Inspector Neil Martin said: “Our enquiries are continuing to establish the circumstances and gather more information on the two men responsible for this violent attack.
“The town centre would have been busy at the time of this assault. I urge any witnesses or anyone with information that may assist our investigation to contact us as soon as possible.”
