Plans are almost complete to redevelop a department store which closed after 150 years.

The finishing touches are being added to the historic Orrs department store in Airdrie which is being transformed into 20 flats and ground-floor commercial spaces.

Wilson Developments has worked with North Lanarkshire Council on the project which marks a significant milestone in their town centre regeneration plans.

Orrs was a much-loved local shopping destination for the community until its closure in 2007.

The future of the vacant unit on South Bridge Street became a source of concern for residents until the council stepped in with the plans.

Councillor Jim Logue recently visited the site to inspect the final touches to the building's interior.

Glasgow Times:

He said: "We are thrilled to breathe new life into this landmark site. The redevelopment of Orrs represents a positive step forward for Airdrie, offering residents a reason to be proud of their town centre once again.

"This regeneration project has been a long time coming, but I'm sure local people will share my delight in finally seeing the building brought back to life.

"I'm looking forward to seeing the first tenants moving into these fantastic new flats in the coming weeks."
