A man smeared his own blood on the wall of a police van and threatened to murder cops.

Barry Taylor, 37, was kicking off at a Glassford Street bar when staff flagged down police.

He walked towards officers and they stopped him to speak to him.

The Wishaw man became irate and started screaming “I am going to f**king murder you, f**king rat b*****ds”.

He was arrested and handcuffed but his conduct continued.

Taylor lashed out with his legs, striking one officer on his right ankle.

Cops escorted him into a cell van as he kept shouting.

Either because of his manner or because he struck his head off the wall of the police van, he was bleeding.

He was spitting and smearing blood on the wall, saying “As soon as this door opens this is going in your f**king eye, I am going to bite your nose off”.

He was taken to Clydebank police station, where he continued this behaviour. He refused to engage.

As a result, fast straps and a spit hood were applied. He was not cautioned and charged at this time, he was released.

Taylor appeared at Glasgow Sheriff Court last week after he pleaded guilty to assault and hitting his head off the wall, spitting and smearing blood.

Sheriff Mark McGuire said: "So, he repeatedly threatened to murder police officers, fast straps were applied and he was spitting and smearing blood and the officer on duty decided to release him?"

Taylor's lawyer said on his behalf: "He is a working man, he works between Monday and Friday as an HGV driver. He spends the weekends at home with the mother of his child. It is a good enough relationship that he stays there at the weekends.

"He can do unpaid work. Alcohol was an issue, he was heavily intoxicated. He repaired the relationship with his ex-partner.

"A hard lesson has been learned here for his behaviour."

Sheriff McGuire told Taylor: "The nature of the offence is such that I could send you to custody. However, I can only do that if there are no other alternatives."

He was sentenced to 180 hours of unpaid work.
