A nurse has appeared in court accused of fatally administering a drug on a patient without confirming his identity.
Blake Dolan, 31, allegedly injected Martin Weldon, 36, with opioid Alfentanil at Glasgow's Queen Elizabeth University Hospital on August 13, 2022.
Court papers state Dolan was acting in his capacity as a registered nurse when he prepared the drug without proper regard to hospital regulations.
The charge says Dolan attended Mr Weldon's bedside while he was a patient, now deceased.
It is claimed Dolan was in possession of a syringe containing Alfentanil - a drug which Mr Weldon had not been proscribed.
Allegations state Dolan culpably and recklessly, without conducting proper checks to confirm his identity and correct prescription, injected Mr Weldon with a lethal dosage and killed him.
It is understood that Mr Weldon was being treated for diabetic hypoglycemia at the time.
The condition had caused a brain injury and his family had twice been told his life-support machines would need to be switched off.
However, Martin, who was from Dumbarton, defied the odds and was making progress in his recovery until his death.
Dolan made no plea today at Glasgow Sheriff Court to the single charge of culpable homicide.
He was represented at the private hearing by his lawyer Natasha Martin.
Dolan, of the city's Bridgeton, was granted bail by Sheriff Andrew McIntyre.
His next court appearance date is to be determined.
