Cops are hunting a pair of thugs who 'stabbed' a man in broad daylight before fleeing in an Audi.

We previously reported the incident took place shortly after 12pm on Sunday, May 26, in the Gartlea Road area of Airdrie.

Police say they received a report of a man having been brutally attacked by two men at a retail park in the area.

It is understood he was stabbed during the situation.

999 crews rushed to the scene and the 23-year-old man was taken to Queen Elizabeth Hospital for treatment of serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

After initial enquiries into the serious assault, the force has now revealed that the culprits got into a dark-coloured Audi.

It left in the direction of Graham Street towards Ballies Roundabout.

Now, officers are appealing for information on the incident.

Detective Sergeant David Duers said: "We are carrying out extensive enquiries into this incident, including searching through CCTV.

"The incident happened in broad daylight in a busy shopping area, so a number of people will have witnessed what happened.

"We are appealing to anyone who was in the area and witnessed the attack, or who have any information that could assist with our enquiries, to please get in touch.
