Tributes have poured in for a talented young boxer who sadly died in a crash in Cumbernauld.

Andrew 'Andy' Tham was involved in a collision between his motorbike and a Hyundai Tucson car on the B8039 near Lenziemill Road on Thursday, May 30. 

The 28-year-old Scottish Featherweight Champion was rushed to hospital where he later died.

Since the news of his passing, heartbroken friends have paid tribute to Andy, who was described as a 'true warrior', a 'gentleman', and a 'cracking boxer'.

Fellow boxer George Stewart said: "I'm absolutely devastated to hear the news of Andy Tham passing.

"It was an absolute honour and a pleasure to share the ring with him two weeks ago, a true warrior I have no words to describe this devastating news other than heartbreaking. My thoughts and condolences are with his family and friends."

Jamie O'Neill of broadcasting company JATV Live and the Scottish Boxing Podcast producer wrote: "Totally heartbroken to hear that Andy Tham has sadly passed away.

"He lit up every room with his infectious smile and was a true gentleman and proper student of boxing. Thoughts are with his friends, family and everyone at Kilsyth Golden Gloves and St Andrew’s Sporting Club."

A statement from Newarthill Amateur Boxing Club read: "The club are deeply saddened by the passing of Scottish Featherweight Champion Andrew Tham, Andy was a cracking boxer who shared a ring with our own Dylan Arbuckle on numerous occasions in competition and sparring, both lads were stablemates under the St Andrews Sporting Club banner.

"Our sincere condolences go out to Andy’s family and friends as well as his club, Kilsyth Golden Gloves. Sleep tight wee man."

Braehead Arena said: "Everyone at the Braehead Arena are shocked and saddened to hear of the passing of young boxer Andy Tham.

"Our thoughts go out to his family and friends at this sad time. The team have many fond memories of his fight here in 2023."

One said: "Heartbreaking r.i.p Andy Tham, thoughts are with his family and friends."

Another wrote: "Rest in peace, Andy. One of the good guys."

Detectives are still trying to establish what happened in the crash and they are urging any witnesses to come forward. 

Sergeant Gemma Blackadder from the Road Policing Unit at Motherwell said: "Our thoughts are very much with Andrew’s family and friends at what is a very difficult time for them.

"Enquiries into the full circumstances of this crash continue. If you believe you have information that will assist our enquiries or if you have any dashcam footage, please contact 101 quoting incident number 3307 of May 30."
