A Glasgow pub popular with Celtic fans has closed after more than 37 years.

Mackinnon's Bar & Lounge shut its doors for good at the end of May following a 'really, really difficult' decision by the owners.

The Gallowgate spot enjoyed regular custom from supporters making their way to Parkhead and was famed for its 8am licence.

It was previously put up for sale in 2023 and we reported that the owner had slashed the price from £100,000 to £80,000.

A statement confirming the closure on May 29 was shared with the pub's loyal customers.

The owner cited health issues as the main reason for the closure.

They said: "Mackinnons is closing on Wednesday [May 29] after 37 years and 4 months.

"We are hanging up our aprons and throwing our sketchers in the bin. It's been a really, really difficult decision.

"It's been a lifetime for us behind that bar. We have worked, sang, laughed, smiled, cried and hugged with so many fabulous friends...but it's time to go.

"The memories are in our hearts forever. We want to thank everyone for their friendship and loyalty to our wee business...throughout the years.

"I'm sure many of our paths will cross in the future... But, it's starting to affect my health. And as we all know life is far too precious. I wish everyone love, health and happiness."

The news has left regular punters devastated, with one person saying MacKinnon's was "the best wee pub in Glasgow with the friendliest staff always making you feel welcome."

Another said: "Such a shame, a great pub and we were always made welcome by Denise. Good luck for the future."

A third added: "Have so many great memories in Mackinnons with so many good people, I wish you and the family all the very best for the future."
