Police have closed a busy road in Rutherglen after a lorry hit a bridge.

First Glasgow has said a bridge has been struck by a truck on Stonelaw Road in Burnside.

The bus firm has said police and Network Rail have shut off the road while they deal with the incident.

Due to this, First Glasgow's service 18 is being diverted.

The service is being diverted via East Kilbride Road, Blairbeth Road, Mill Street, Roger Drive, and Stonelaw Drive in both directions.

Last night, South Lanarkshire Council said the road was closed at Burnside train station due to the situation.

It is unclear if anyone has been injured during the incident.

A diversion is in place for road users.

Police Scotland has been contacted for comment.
