Scottish Water has said work to repair a water main in Rutherglen which erupted earlier today is 'well underway'.

We reported how emergency services and Scottish Water crews rushed to Blairbeth Road in the town this morning after being made aware of the issue.

Previously, the water firm said they were currently on-site working to isolate the burst on the 24-inch water main.

However, now they have revealed engineers are making 'good progress' with the repairs.

After isolating the damaged section of the pipe, Scottish Water says repair work is now 'well underway' and expected to be completed later this evening (Wednesday, June 12).

The publicly-owned water company has said they are providing support to customers who were affected by the localised flooding linked to the burst pipe, while they have said recovery and clean-up work will continue into tomorrow.

Due to the issue, Blairbeth Road near its junction with Crawfurd Road is closed to ensure public safety.

The closure is likely to be needed until the repair and full reinstatement of the affected section of the road has been completed.

Diversions are in place for motorists.

A spokesperson for Scottish Water said: “We would like to apologise for the disruption caused by the burst today and thank the local community for their patience while our team works to complete repairs and provide assistance to affected customers.”
