A Glasgow man told cops he was hungry and then hit them with his car door twice.

Twana Jalal, 32, was spotted driving just after 11pm on February 2, 2023 on Paisley Road West.

Officers asked for his details when he told them he was hungry and was going for food.

He was told not to leave.

Jalal, of the Kinning Park area, then flung his car door open, hitting the cops. He was told he could be arrested.

He flung his door open again, hitting the police once more.

He was arrested and he tried to leave the scene.

Jalal was taken to Helen Street police station in Govan, where he was cautioned and charged.

He appeared at Glasgow Sheriff Court last week after pleading guilty to assaulting the cops and resisting arrest.

At the hearing, Sheriff Vincent Lunny remarked: "The narration would suggest that the second opening of the doors was not accidental."

Jalal's solicitor replied: "The second time the officers were in view."

The sheriff said: "And he did it after having been warned."

The lawyer added: "It is clear that this escalated from a minor road traffic matter to an assault on police officers. He accepts that."

Sheriff Lunny said: "This was very unnecessary. This is a serious offence. Police officers on duty do not deserve to be treated in this manner."

Jalal was sentenced to 90 hours of unpaid work, which is to be completed within six months.
