A restaurant was evacuated after a blaze erupted in an East Kilbride bar.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service says they were called to reports of a fire within a pub near Scholar's Gate in the town.

The service was called to the incident shortly after 8pm on Wednesday, June 12.

In total, two fire trucks were sent to the scene.

While crews battled the blaze, the service say a restaurant adjacent to the bar was evacuated as a precaution.

A spokesperson for the SFRS said: "We were alerted at 8.25pm on Wednesday, June 12, to reports of a fire within a bar near Scholar's Gate in East Kilbride.

"Operations control mobilised two fire appliances to the scene.

"A restaurant adjacent to the bar was evacuated as a precaution, with crews extinguishing the fire.

"Crews left the scene after ensuring the area was safe."

A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: "Around 9pm on Wednesday, June 12, 2024 police were made aware of a fire at a premises on Scholar's Gate, East Kilbride.

"The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service extinguished the fire, which is being treated as wilful.

"Two 13-year-old male youths were arrested and charged in connection with the incident.

"Both were released on an undertaking to appear at Hamilton Sheriff Court on Wednesday, June 26, 2024."
