A fire at a derelict building near Glasgow has sparked a 999 response. 

Cops and fire crews were alerted to reports of a blaze at Scholars Gate in East Kilbride earlier this morning.

Two fire engines were dispatched to the scene and emergency crews are currently working to make the area safe. 

This is the second fire within the last week in the area, after the fire service dealt with a blaze within a pub near Scholar's Gate on June 12. 

A restaurant was evacuated after a blaze erupted in an East Kilbride bar.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Around 11.20am on Monday, June 17, 2024, we were called to a report of a fire in Scholars Gate, East Kilbride.

"Officers are in attendance."

A spokesperson for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service added: "We were alerted at 10.35am on Monday, June 17, to reports of a fire at a derelict building at Scholars Gate, East Kilbride.

"Operations Control mobilised two appliances to the scene, firefighters are working to make the area safe."
