The wait is almost over for fried chicken fans as Popeyes gets ready to open in Glasgow.

The internationally renowned Louisiana fried chicken chain is preparing to welcome guests to its Sauchiehall Street restaurant this summer.

Signs have appeared this week outside the empty unit indicating that they are opening soon.

No specific opening date has been confirmed but Popeyes is expected to open in Glasgow in July 2024.

Popeyes is a fast food restaurant chain from America which specialises in Louisiana-style fried chicken. 

It was founded in Louisiana, USA in 1972 by Al Copeland and now has over 4000 restaurants worldwide. 

What is Popeyes famous for?

 

Popeyes is known for its signature fried chicken, served Louisiana-style chicken, fried to give a distinctive 'crunch'.

The chicken is marinated in a range of cajun seasonings for 12 hours.

Popeyes has an international following and is even popular with celebrities.

The restaurant famously catered the wedding of music superstars Beyonce and Jay-Z back in 2008. 

What is on the menu in Popeyes?

 

Popeyes serves a range of products including chicken sandwiches, chicken wraps, signature Louisiana chicken pieces, chicken tenders, and hot chicken wings.

Their sides include regular fries, cajun fries, mash, gravy, mac and cheese and biscuits, a traditional Southern side dish. 

The drinks include milkshakes, soft drinks and coffees.

For dessert, you can enjoy their range of 'whips' i.e. soft serve vanilla ice cream with toppings including chocolate, Oreo and Biscoff. 

Does Popeyes do breakfast? 

 

In Glasgow's Sauchiehall Street restaurant, Popeyes will also be serving up a range of breakfast choices.

The menu includes the Big Cajun breakfast roll, new Brekkie wraps, Cajun hash browns and indulgent Nutella-topped buttermilk biscuits.

Breakfast will be available until 11am every day, and will even include a Bacon roll meal for just £1.99, comprising of the Bacon roll, a Hash Brown and a drink.

Yes. Popeyes has a kids' menu featuring two meal options - chicken tenders, fries and a drink or a wrap, fries and a drink.

Does Scotland have Popeyes?

 

There are currently two Popeyes restaurants in Scotland, and the Glasgow restaurant will be the third.

The first opened in Barrhead in September 2023, while another opened in Aberdeen in April 2024.
