An award-winning Glasgow butcher has been forced to temporarily close its store due to a fire that caused 'great' damage.

A fire from an electrical fault tore through David Cox butcher's shop in Bridgeton on Monday night resulting in a 'great deal of damage'.

George Gilmour, who runs the family business and both stores in Bridgeton and Kings Park, told customers that he would have to close the East End spot until further notice.

Customers can still shop at the Kings Park shop until the Bridgeton one is up and running again.

A free delivery service is being offered for those who cannot travel to Kings Park.

George said: "Through the night an electrical fault inside our Bridgeton store caused a fire which has caused a great deal of damage to the store.

"Our Kings Park store can be found at 6 Kingsheath Avenue, G73 2DE.

"Those who are able to get there will be welcomed and be able to continue to get everything we stocked in the Bridgeton store as normal.

"We will be running a free daily delivery service in the meantime and you can place your order by calling the store at 01416329992 or preferably by placing your order at www.davidcoxbutchers.co.uk

"I am sorry for the inconvenience caused your neighbours and am so thankful that they are safe after this.

"David Cox Butchers have operated for 54 years in Bridgeton opened by my Papa then owned by my Dad George Snr. As soon as I am able to have the shop operating again I will do so."

George, whose father and grandfather both owned the businesses before him, is known and liked for his community spirit.
