Plans for a park-and-ride facility at an East Kilbride train station have progressed.
South Lanarkshire Council has agreed to fund a £2 million shortfall in the budget for the project at Hairmyres station.
The cash will be reimbursed by Transport Scotland which has been outlined in a letter of confirmation from the organisation.
Executive Director of Community and Enterprise Resources, David Booth, said: “The park and ride is essential in supporting the work being done to enhance Hairmyres Station.
“It will allow the whole town to benefit from the improvements at the station.
“We are committed to supporting sustainable travel and park and rides allow people to make the switch much more easily from car to train for the biggest part of their journeys.”
A tender exercise is now underway and a programme of works, including timescales will follow subject to a positive tender return.
