A nursery in Milngavie has lodged a planning appeal with the Scottish Government over whether it should be allowed to remain in its present building.
Lullaby Lane Nursery is in dispute with East Dunbartonshire Council over whether it should be allowed to retain its current building in Auchenhowie Road for an additional five years, but the council has refused this due to concern over the quality of flood protection.
The applicant submitted engineering reports which state that the nearby Allander Water embankment acts as appropriate defence against flooding, and has now appealed to the Scottish Government seeking a favourable decision on the case.
Part of the flood risk report states: “The embankment has been qualitatively assessed against likely failure mechanisms. It is considered that the risk of failure during the life of the development is very low.”
The site in question is the largest of three private nurseries operated in East Dunbartonshire by Tigers Ltd, which cater to children aged up to five years and provide places at a cost of £65 per day. The others are in Hogganfield and Westerton.
