A vacant plot of land in Coatbridge could be developed into a garage and MOT testing centre if a planning application is successful.
Rentwise Property has applied to North Lanarkshire Council, proposing that the business premises be built at the site off Woodside Street.
The floor area of the planned garage would be 370 square metres and various neighbouring properties have been notified of the application, which also covers the creation of a new access point to the property.
For more information on the application, which is currently open for consultation, go to North Lanarkshire Council’s website and search for application reference 24/00700/PPP.
Reports from the Institute of the Motor Industry indicate that there is currently a shortage of MOT testers in the UK, due to a variety of factors including testers retiring and not being replaced due to a lack of new entrants to the profession. Around 30 million vehicles need to be tested each year.
