Glasgow's Quayside Care Home celebrated Care Home Open Week with a Dance-a-Thon event.

This social care facility in the city's Yoker is part of HC-One, and from June 24 to 30, it welcomed visitors from the community as part of the national event.

Care Home Open Week, hosted by Championing Social Care, is designed to link care homes to their communities.

It gives them a chance to demonstrate their various services, offer tours of their facilities and highlight the activities available for residents.

The week is designed to remind the home’s neighbours that they have a place to turn to for support if needed.

The theme for this year's celebration at HC-One was dancing together through the decades.

Residents, staff, families, and friends participated in a range of enjoyable activities throughout the week, leading to a final celebration at the home.

On June 28, Quayside Care Home presented a spread of entertainment and refreshments, enjoyed by everyone.

The Dance-a-Thon was the highlight, featuring participants dancing non-stop for an hour to songs from every era, from the 1920s Charleston to Beyoncé’s Texas Hold ‘Em from the 2020s.

Deepening the theme, residents and staff dressed in era-appropriate attire, complete with feather boas, glasses and hats, and indulged in prosecco while enjoying a delicious garden banquet.

The Dance-a-Thon managed to raise £615.

For the occasion, the care home was thoughtfully decorated, creating many opportunities for everyone to come together and learn more about life at home.

Visitors also discovered what a rewarding career in care looks like and the various opportunities for community engagement as well as the available volunteering roles designed to benefit their care community.

Shaun Docherty, home manager at HC-One’s Quayside Care Home, said: "We were delighted to be able to open the doors of Quayside Care Home again to welcome in our local community and bring everyone together to celebrate Care Home Open Week 2024.

"Everyone had an amazing time.

"We are proud to support Yoker, and our Open Week celebrations provided a great opportunity to reconnect with our local community and to support community engagement which is so important to our residents, colleagues, and the area.

"The week was also a chance for us to showcase what life at our care home is like, share career and volunteering opportunities, and remind our local community that our kind care teams and extensive facilities are here for them if they ever need support."
