Plans have been revealed for the former Tower Records building in Glasgow.

We reported last week that the site on Argyle Street was bought by the owner of the fish and chips brand Blue Lagoon with a tenant 'lined up' for the ground floor space and potential offices above.

Blue Lagoon boss Gianluca Varese, who also owns coffee shop Sexy Coffee on Union Street, has now confirmed that he will use the space to open a second Sexy Coffee spot.

He says he plans to spend somewhere in the region of £500,000 renovating the space to provide customers with a 'stylish' and 'high-end' cafe and around 15 to 20 jobs will be created.

Gianluca said: "We are excited to share the news that Sexy Coffee is coming to another iconic location within Glasgow city centre, which was the former Tower Records unit on 217 Argyle Street.

"Our intentions are to spend close to half a million on the renovation to create a spectacular stylish high end marbled themed café.

"We hope this will enhance the area similar to what we have done on the 115 Union Street unit, see pictures below from the opening day of that store.

"We will hire 15 to 20 members of staff."

The shop is expected to be open daily from 6.30am until late serving coffee, cocktails, draft beer, cakes, ice cream, desserts and the brand's signature alcoholic coffees.

It is hoped that the second Sexy Coffee will open in the building by the end of the year with long-term plans to expand the brand throughout Glasgow.

A category B-listed building, the venue next to Central Station housed the music chain Tower Records for many years but the outlet closed in 2002.

Memorable moments in its history include hosting a Bon Jovi concert in 1995 and the likes of Texas, Marti Pellow and Del Amitri also performed there.

Music Zone took over the building in December 2006, but they went into administration weeks later, and in September 2011 That's Entertainment opened but closed two years later.

The property was put up for auction in 2022.
