A Glasgow city centre pub is to close for good after almost 25 years.

The Lab, located on Springfield Court just off Buchanan Street in the town, made the sudden announcement to customers that Saturday, July 20 would be their last day of trading.

They thanked everyone who has supported them over the years and promised that a 'wee night' would be organised to toast the memories of the bar.

The Lab has been going for almost a quarter of a century and in 2010 it was named 'Scotland's Best Pub'.

A spokesperson said: "It is with a heavy heart that we have to inform you that after nearly a quarter of a century, the Lab will be closing its doors for the very last time this Saturday, the 20th of July.

"We would like to say a massive thank you to all our customers and staff, past and present. Without you, it wouldn't have been possible.

"For those of you not able to say a final goodbye, we will, in due course, organise a wee night out at a venue still to be decided to raise a glass to the Lab and share our happy and sad memories."

A third added: "Like everyone else, The Lab has been our favourite pub for as long as I can remember! Good luck for the future."

A fourth said: "So gutted to read this, best pub in the town."
