UPDATE: A man has died following the incident.
A busy road has been closed for hours due to an emergency incident.
Three vehicles have collided on the A725 slip road at Bellshill this morning.
999 crews raced to the scene at around 11.20am and the road was closed until around 5.30pm.
Reports on social media described the incident as 'horrific' and 'nasty'.
One person said: "It looked horrific! I hope everyone is okay."
Another said: "It looked bad."
A third added: "Looks like a nasty one."
Cops confirmed that they were still on the scene and it is not yet known if there are any injuries.
Drivers are urged to avoid the area and a diversion is in place.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Around 11.20am on Thursday, July 18, 2024, we were called to a report of a three-vehicle crash on the A725 sliproad at Bellshill.
"Emergency services are in attendance and the road is closed.
"Motorists are advised to avoid the area."
The Scottish Ambulance Service has been contacted.
