Work to improve pedestrian crossings, pavements, and bus stop laybys in Motherwell will start on Monday.
This includes widening the existing paths for walking, wheeling and cycling, and expanding pedestrian and cyclist crossings, including the roundabout island at Hamilton Road.
There will also be repairs to the bus stop laybys on either side of West Hamilton Street and road resurfacing.
The works are expected to be completed by early October.
Temporary traffic and pedestrian arrangements, such as road closures controlled by traffic lights, will be in place to ensure the work is carried out safely.
Access to residential and commercial properties during these works will be maintained.
The scheme is part of a wider project by North Lanarkshire Council to create walking and cycling routes in the town centre between Motherwell Rail Station and the new transport hub on Muir Street, the Civic Centre, Braidhurst Industrial Estate, and Strathclyde Country Park.
The initiative encourages sustainable active travel, enhances access to services for non-car owners, reduces congestion and improve air quality.
Funding is from the Scottish Government’s Place Based Investment Programme and the UK Government Shared Prosperity Fund.
The council has commissioned JH Civil Engineering Ltd to undertake the project.
