A person has died after being hit by a train near Glasgow last night.

We reported how ScotRail said a person had been struck by a train between Wishaw and Coatbridge on Friday, July 19.

Now, the British Transport Police have confirmed they were alerted to the incident shortly before 11pm.

The force says they were called to the railway line at Braidhurst Viaduct near Motherwell following reports of a casualty on the tracks.

999 crews rushed to the scene, however, sadly the person was pronounced dead.

Police have since revealed the incident is not being treated as suspicious.

A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.

A spokesperson for the BTP said: “Officers were called to the railway line at Braidhurst Viaduct at 10.44pm on Friday, July 19 following reports of a casualty on the tracks.

"Paramedics also attended, however, sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene.

"The incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the Procurator Fiscal.”
