Police were called to a report of a rape in Coatbridge.
Officers say they received a report of a serious sexual assault of a 17-year-old girl.
The alleged incident is said to have occurred within a premises on Main Street at around 11.30pm on Friday.
Reports on social media told of a police presence carrying out investigations in the area on Saturday.
The force confirmed that a 31-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection.
He is due to appear in court on Monday.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “We received a report of a serious sexual assault of a 17-year-old female within premises in Main Street, Coatbridge which occurred around 11.30pm on Friday, July 19, 2024.
“A 31-year-old man was arrested and charged in connection and is due to appear at Airdrie Sheriff Court on Monday, July 22, 2024."
