A top cop has hit out after a personal trainer was caught with a £900,000 drugs haul last year.

We previously reported that William Paterson, 35, threw the box of cocaine from a car window during a high-sped police chase around the north of Glasgow on March 1, 2023.

Paterson's Mercedes struck the police vehicle and he was then apprehended and taken to hospital, where he was released without treatment.

Now, Detective Superintendent Steven Elliott has said Paterson's arrest has undoubtedly caused significant disruption to the local supply chain

He said: "This operation undoubtedly caused significant disruption to the local supply chain.

"We know that individuals and communities are deeply affected by the drugs trade and we will continue to take action against those involved.”

Sentencing for William Paterson was deferred pending background reports until next month by Judge Lady Hood.

She said: "Due to the gravity and seriousness of the offence, it seems to me that bail is inappropriate to continue.

"This will be revoked and you will be remanded in custody."

Anyone who has information or concerns about the sale and supply of drugs is urged to contact Police Scotland via 101. Alternatively, if you’d prefer to remain anonymous, you can call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
