A teen threw herself onto her boyfriend to save him from a horror attack at a Glasgow festival while security 'stood and watched'.

Lee Paton was set upon by two thugs who 'kicked and stamped' on him while he attended TRNSMT in Glasgow Green on Saturday, July 13.

It was previously reported that the horrific incident left the 16-year-old in a coma and on a ventilator.

His brave girlfriend Paige, who was with him at the festival, leapt on top of him to try and protect his head as he lay unconscious on the ground, the Daily Record reports.

The pair then kicked her stomach and back before medics and police intervened.

Lee, from Patna in East Ayrshire, told the Record: “If it wasn’t for Paige's actions, I’d be dead.

"She lay on top of me and took kicks to her back and stomach as these two men continued to try and stamp on my head.

"No one else did anything to stop it. The security staff stood back and watched."

Lee suffered a fractured eye socket and swelling on his brain, has "night terrors" and screams in his sleep since the unprovoked attack.

He said: "I constantly wake up now screaming 'get off me, get off me'. The whole ordeal has deflated me.

"I've completely lost my confidence. I'm trying to forget about what happened but it's constantly playing in my mind that these two guys are still out there."

Lee was sitting on a bench when she was approached by the pair, who ordered him to stand up, and seconds later he was knocked unconscious.

His next memory is of waking up in the hospital.

The ordeal has since deterred Lee from ever attending the festival again.

He said: “I’ll always worry about my safety now, I’ve been left so traumatised by the whole thing.

"When I was there I could sense there was trouble brewing at different points throughout the day.

"When I was at the Boogie Bar I saw two fights break out, there was no security there either.

"I just tried to keep myself to myself but then this happened.

"I think a lot of young guys go to these events to show off and make a name for themselves."

Police are understood to be looking for two men in connection with the assault.

The first is described as having a dark buzz-cut hairstyle and a half-sleeve tattoo on his right arm.

He wore a black bucket hat and a Scotland Saltire flag wrapped around him.

The second man is described as around 6ft 1in, of slim build, with dark hair.

He was wearing a light-coloured top at the time.

Detective Sergeant Stephen Greenshields of Shettleston CID said: “This incident has left the victim with serious injuries, and we are carrying out extensive enquiries to identify the males responsible.

“Numerous people will have witnessed this incident, and we would urge anyone with any information that could assist with our enquiries to come forward.

“If you think you can help, you can contact police via 101, quoting 2222 of 13 July, or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”

A TRNSMT spokesperson said: "Our number one priority is to ensure festivalgoers have a good time safely at our events.

“We invest heavily in police, security and medical, plus our welfare team who have been in regular conversation with Lee, his dad, and his family since last Saturday, offering support where we can.

“We are continuing to support Police Scotland with their investigation to find those responsible.”
