A new 25-meter phone mast will be built in Bishopbriggs if a planning application is approved.
WHP Telecoms Ltd has proposed installing the mast, as well as related infrastructure such as cabinets, twelve antennae and four dishes, to the north of St Mungo Street.
A covering letter states this location is “the most suitable option that balances operational need with local planning policies and national planning policy guidance,” and that “it will deliver public benefit in terms of the mobile services it will provide”.

The applicant also submitted supporting documentation explaining the widespread need for new phone masts and research on potential health effects.
Part of the latter document stated:” The World Health Organisation (WHO) noted that ‘A large number of studies have been performed over the last two decades to assess whether mobile phones pose a potential health risk. To date, no adverse health effects have been established as being caused by mobile phone use’.”
