A young cancer survivor embarked on a life-changing sailing journey with the Ellen MacArthur Cancer Trust.
Adam Reilly, 25, was diagnosed with germ cell cancer in 2023 and has been dealing with the devastating loss of his grandfather to the same illness.
In tribute to his grandad, Adam, from Wishaw, joined the trust on a sailing expedition.
The Ellen MacArthur Cancer Trust arranges sailing and outdoor pursuits for children and young adults aged 8 to 24.
Adam said: "I had germ cell cancer, which I'd never heard of prior to my diagnosis.
"It was really a shock to the system.
"It hit him a lot when he found out I had cancer.
"Unfortunately, we lost him in April.
"So, that was another reason I wanted to come on this trip and ultimately do this for my grandad, to honour his memory and keep him with me in some way."
The aftermath of cancer can also impact a young person's mental health, and the effects can often be as challenging as the treatment itself.
The work of the Ellen MacArthur Cancer Trust starts after treatment has ended, aiding young people in their adjustment to this 'new normal'.
By participating in the trust's outdoor activities, the aim is for young individuals to regain their sense of purpose and worth, re-establishing optimistic outlooks for their futures.
Adam added: "The whole trip shows you that your life is not over when you get cancer.
"It's just another hurdle to get through.
"But it's really good to know that you can still get back on track and back into your own life."
Dame Ellen MacArthur, the charity's founder and patron, said: "We see it time and time again.
"Young people arrive anxious and isolated.
"But they leave feeling part of something, accepted, independent, and optimistic."
Adam's doctor, oncologist Jeff White who volunteers with the trust, was also present on the trip.
The Ellen MacArthur Cancer Trust extends its services to anyone seeking support, regardless of the time elapsed since their treatment.
