A 'first of its kind' new service station and supermarket is opening in Glasgow this week.

Co-op will open a new convenience store on Nitshill Road in Darnley as part of a new agreement between the firm and the petrol forecourt business, EG On The Move.

Nitshill Services – located at the Nitshill Interchange - will operate 24 hours and is said to be the first to launch in Scotland following the new agreement.

A similar set-up recently opened in Doncaster, England as part of a trial. 

Customers a range of fresh, chilled and healthy produce, meal ideas and everyday essentials, prepared sandwiches and food-to-go.

As well as this, the Co-op sells Fairtrade products, flowers, car care products, ready meals, pizzas and, free-from, vegan and plant-based products.

Branches of Greggs and Starbucks are featured on the site and drivers can also benefit from electric vehicle charging at the forecourt. 

Co-op store manager Fiona Air said: “It is very exciting to be opening a brand new store located on this state-of-the-art services, which combines Co-op’s convenience expertise with EG On The Move’s petrol forecourt business.

"Our aim is to operate at the heart of local life and we have worked to develop the range, choice and added services to create a compelling offer to serve our community, conveniently.”

EG on the Move is working with Co-op on the new plan, rolling out across seven stores as part of a trial and aiming to expand if this is successful.
