A man was attacked under a bridge in a very busy area of Dumbarton.
The 37-year-old was approached under the Artizan bridge on the footpath leading to Leven Court in the town on Saturday afternoon.
His mobile phone was stolen and he was assaulted in an attack so severe he needed to be taken to hospital to be treated for his injuries.
Detectives investigating the crime believe it took place between 1.25pm and 1.35pm.
They are particularly eager to speak to two men who were seen in the area at the time of the assault.
Detective Constable Andrew Baldacci, of Clydebank CID, said: “Our enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances and trace those responsible.
“Two men were seen at the time and we are keen to speak to them as we believe they can assist with our investigation.
“The area was busy at the time and we are keen to speak to anyone who may have seen what happened as all information could be important to our enquiries.
“Anyone who can help is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident number 1920 of Saturday, July 27, 2024, or make a call anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
