Two teenage girls have been arrested in connection with an alleged 'attack' on a Scots gran.

Melanie Cuthbertson was on a day out at Rotten Calder Waterfall in Blantyre on Monday, June 24, when the alleged assault was reported to have taken place, the Scottish Sun reports.

The 52-year-old visited the area with friends from a wild swimming group and decided to stay after they left.

However, she then fell asleep whilst sunbathing before being allegedly assaulted.

Now, according to the Scottish Sun, police have confirmed that two young girls - aged 16 and 17 - have been arrested and charged in connection with the alleged assault.

The pair were released on an undertaking to appear at Hamilton Sheriff Court at a later date.

Meanwhile, a report has been submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.

A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: "Two teenage girls aged 16 and 17 years have been arrested and charged in connection.

"They were released on an undertaking to appear at Hamilton Sheriff Court at a later date.

"A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal."
