A brave Glasgow boy with autism and dyspraxia is set to zip slide across the Clyde.

Scheduled for September 13, the zip slide event will raise funds for the Armed Forces charity, SSAFA.

Stephen May, 14, who faces daily challenges with activities like walking and cycling, is ready to participate in the event that holds a deep significance for the family who have a strong military heritage.

His mum Sharon said: “Stephen has watched me do kiltwalks and climbs and has always wanted to join in.

“However, his physical limitations made it difficult for him to participate in these activities.

“When he saw the Zip Slide event, he said, 'Mum, I can do that one.' His excitement was overwhelming when he found out he could participate.”

Supporters can donate to Stephen's fundraising efforts on his JustGiving page at https://tinyurl.com/2us4ujry.

His grandad served in the army, spending time in Belfast and Germany, before leaving the forces.

He tragically took his own life, highlighting the need for SSAFA's support for service members and their families.

Stephen's great-granddad had also served as a sergeant in World War II.

Sharon said: "We have always been proud of our military connections.

"SSAFA’s support is crucial, and being able to contribute to such an important cause through Stephen’s participation is incredibly meaningful for us."
