Pictures have revealed the devastating impact of a blaze which has ripped through a historic Paisley building.

We reported how emergency crews raced to reports of a fire within a derelict building on Stevenson Street in the town shortly after 2.30am on Thursday, August 1.

In total, three fire trucks were sent to the scene to deal with the inferno.

Crews are currently still in attendance at the incident as they continue to tackle the fire.

Luckily, the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) has confirmed no one has been injured during the fire.

Now, pictures captured by the Glasgow Times reveal the damage left by the blaze.

It appears the roof of the building has collapsed, while brickwork has also been destroyed.

Fire crews have also been pictured on the scene working on controlling the inferno.

Meanwhile, locals have taken to social media to express their sadness at the news.

In posts, residents in the area claim the fire has ripped through Spiersfield House.

According to NovaLoca - who is a commercial estate agent - the building is a former nursing home and is Category B listed.

The estate agents say the listed mansion dates back to 1874.

One said: "Abandoned old folks home at the top of Stevenson Street on fire."

Another added: "I could cry. That beautiful building Speirsfield House has been destroyed by fire."

A third chimed: "Sad sight to see."

Meanwhile, a fourth said: "Such a beautiful building."

Police Scotland has said an investigation into the blaze is underway.

A spokesperson for the SFRS said: “We were alerted at 2.36am on Thursday, August 1, to reports of a fire within a derelict building on Stevenson Street, Paisley.

“Operations control mobilised two fire appliances and a height appliance to the scene.

"All appliances still remain in attendance as crews continue to firefight.

“There are no reported casualties.”

A spokesperson for Police Scotland added: "Around 2.20am on Thursday, August 1, 2024, we received a report of a fire at Spiersfield Gardens in Paisley.

"Enquiries are ongoing."
