More than 60 new affordable homes are being planned in Auchinairn under a new proposal from the council.

The East Dunbartonshire Council in partnership with its development partners hub West Scotland, CRGP Architects, and Cruden Construction, has organised a drop-in event this month for residents to learn more about the development.

The site, to the east of Beech Road, includes the former Auchinairn Primary School and surrounding vacant land which is currently used as an open space.

The plan is to construct 63 affordable homes for social rent comprising one, two, and three-bedroom houses and flats.

The Scottish Government’s Affordable Housing Supply Programme will provide the necessary grant funding.

A drop-in event, managed by the council’s Housing Investment Team, will feature the initial plans and allow residents to ask questions and provide feedback.

It is set to take place at the Auchinairn Community and Early Years Centre on August 15 from 3.15 to 7.15pm.

For those who cannot make it to the drop-in event, the information will be available on the consultation pages of the council’s website at https://tinyurl.com/3u9tdwvr from Monday, August 5.

Councillor Paul Ferretti, convener of the council’s Place, Neighbourhood & Corporate Assets Committee, said, “This site forms part of the Council’s Affordable Housing Investment Programme, which aims to help meet a high local demand for affordable homes.

“This is an opportunity for local residents who are interested in finding out more about the proposed new housing development to come along and get all the information they need and provide us with feedback that could help shape the future proposals.”

Residents who want to make comments on the proposal can do so through an online survey which will run from August 5 until August 19.

Following this, a second drop-in event will be held on September 26, from 3pm to 7pm at the Auchinairn Community and Early Years Centre to present feedback from the initial consultation.

A report will then be prepared which will be submitted in support of the planning application.
