Preliminary assessments are underway with a view to building a major housing development on the site of Cumbernauld’s former tax offices.
HMRC Cumbernauld, once the largest tax office in the UK, closed in 2022 with a loss of around 1,300 jobs in the town as staff were relocated.
Now, North Lanakshire Council is to process a screening opinion request with regard to building between 140 and 200 homes on the site, where demolition is currently in progress.
A screening opinion request is a procedure to determine whether an environmental impact assessment will be required prior to a planning application being submitted.
At time of writing there are no publicly viewable documents on North Lanarkshire Council’s website, but the progress of the request can be viewed by visiting the site and searching for planning reference 24/00811/EIASCR.
