A man who bombarded his lover with calls and texts from prison was jailed for 15 months.

Daniel Hussain, 32, targeted the woman from Glasgow's HMP Barlinnie between November 2023 and March 2024.

Glasgow Sheriff Court heard that Hussain and the woman were initially in a relationship from June 2022.

He was remanded in custody in May 2023 for a domestic matter in which she was the victim.

The relationship continued as she believed that Hussain was "remorseful."

His abusive behaviour from prison started in November 2023 when he left 31 voicemails over a period of four days.

Hussain was released in January 2024 with a non-harassment order not to communicate with the woman.

He was arrested and remanded again after breaching the order.

Hussain continued to contact the woman from a prison issue phone which included 40 voicemails.

Police later attended the woman's home following an anonymous call.

Officers listened to a number of the voicemails some of which were narrated to the court by prosecutor Alasdair Knox.

He said: "If you don't answer the phone in the next half an hour I am sending my pal round.

"You are not ripping the f***ing c*** out of me.

"My pal is on his way round now, treating me like an a******e, treating me like a bam, you are going down you f***ing bam."

Hussain pleaded guilty to engaging in a course of conduct which was the abuse of the woman from prison.

He also admitted breaching a non-harassment order.

David Kinloch, defending, told the court: "My client's behaviour was illegal and not acceptable but there is background to her consenting."

Hussain had previously went missing from Castle Huntly open prison in July 2016 after he absconded.

Hussain - who was serving five-years for trying to rob a jewellers with a sword - was caught after six days on the run.
