Women moving to Glasgow can make friends easier thanks to a brand-new group.

All Girls Allowed (AGA) was set up last month by Bea Harold in a bid to help newcomers in the city get out and about and make friends in a safe environment.

The 28-year-old decided to create the group after feeling completely isolated when she moved from London to Shawlands a year ago.

Speaking to the Glasgow Times, Bea said: “When I moved to Glasgow, I found it to be really isolating and I think for a lot of people it’s the same.

“I was working from home, and I wasn’t able to easily meet people or make friends. I just didn’t naturally fall into place.”

Through AGA, Bea – who is originally from Suffolk - organises events and meet-ups, some of which have included jewellery-making workshops and a meet and greet in Pollok Park – where newcomers got to meet the Highland Cows up-close-and-personal for the first time.

Some events like the meet-and-greet are free, while others can incur a small cost.

And Bea is already seeing the positive impact of the selfless initiative.

She explained: “A few girls who came to the jewellery workshop, then came to the meet and greet to introduce themselves to some of the other girls and that was great.

“It is really nice to see people come along to the events and meet new people. They are all so receptive to making friends.

“It’s amazing and I hope it’s because I have created a safe space for these people – that’s what I want to do here.”

The events are in partnership with small local businesses, and all activities are made to be as inclusive as possible - including non-alcoholic, mum-and-child-friendly, and budget-friendly activities.

Bea added that AGA is committed to making sure events are inclusive of all disabilities, religions, and backgrounds.

The group is open to women over the age of 18 and welcomes anyone new to the city, as well as those who have been born and raised in Glasgow.

Coming up, AGA will be running a murder mystery dinner party, launching a book club and a Halloween party at Dream Works.

The next event is the book club, which will take place next month on August 31.
