Proposals have been submitted to East Renfrewshire Council for permission to extend a Premier Inn and convert its restaurant to guest accommodation.

An application for full planning permission has been put forward by Premier Inn Hotels Limited for its location on Greenlaw Way in Newton Mearns.

The existing site is home to a 60-bedroom Premier Inn hotel and associated Beefeater restaurant which has approximately 200 covers.

Both are operated by Whitbread, the owners of Premier Inn, who announced plans earlier this year to close over 200 restaurants and cut 1,500 jobs.

Car parking is currently provided on-site with capacity to accommodate a total of 102 cars, including six disabled bays, for the shared use of the hotel and restaurant.

The proposals, which were validated by the council yesterday (Tuesday, August 6) and are currently awaiting approval, involve a net 30-bedroom extension to the existing hotel.

If approved, the hotel would then have a total of 90 bedrooms, with 96 car parking spaces post-development.

The hotel extension would incorporate a conversion of the existing restaurant, with a smaller breakfast room instead provided to cater for guests’ morning meals.

Access would continue to be from South Greenlaw Way as per the existing arrangements.
