A travel warning has been issued after an 'urgent' incident on a Glasgow road.

Immediate repairs are required to a manhole frame at Garscube Cross which means the traffic lights have been switched off and temporary lights are in place.

Drivers travelling in the area have been warned that congestion is to be expected particularly during peak periods.

The site is also part of the diversion route for the ongoing M8 eastbound closures, so traffic may also be busy during the evenings.

Glasgow City Council roads department says they expect the work to be completed by 23:59 on Thursday, August 15.

A spokesperson said: "Due to urgent manhole frame and cover repairs the signals at Garscube Cross have been switched off and are currently under the control of temporary traffic lights.

"Drivers are advised to expect congestion particularly during peak periods and also during the scheduled motorway closures in the evenings as this site is part of the diversion route for the M8 eastbound closures.

"The duration of these works is currently unknown, further bulletins will be issued when more information is known."
