Now it has emerged that there was concern for the woman who was lying in the lane moments before the incident.

A witness told the Scottish Sun: “I heard there was concern for the welfare of a woman down the lane moments before she was hit.

“I don’t know what’s happened but I’m hoping it hasn’t ended in tragedy.

“There were cops on the scene very quickly and the whole area around Waterloo Street and Wellington Street was cordoned off.

“It was shocking to see so many emergency vehicles in one area but whatever has happened it’s obviously not good.”
